Basic And Elaborate Scrapbooking Supplies
Scrapbooking has become a major hobby. If you don't believe this, just consider that one in every four American homes has an active scrapbooker present. It is estimated that most scrapbookers generally have at least $1,000 of supplies on hand at any given time. So, what could possibly go into scrapbooking that requires so much? A little and a lot - depending on the scrapbooker's style. The basics for scrapbooking include paper, adhesives, albums, embellishments. For the more elaborate scrapbooker, you can add to that list ink pads, punches, special tools, eyelets, specialty paper and more.
The basics are just that - the minimum needed to create a good scrapbook. Let's take a look at these kinds of supplies and what they're for.
* Paper - This is an absolute necessity. The acid-free or card stock papers used in scrapbooking are the "backbone" of the hobby. Without decent paper to put photographs, poems, journal entries and more, on there is no scrapbook. Papers available range from inexpensive to very expensive, acid-free preservation paper that can cost a mini-bundle per sheet. Papers for this hobby are sometimes so specialized they include their own designs and textures.
* Adhesives - Basically these are tapes and glues designed for scrapbooks. The key behind the tape adhesives is not damaging photos. The types range from specialty "scrapbooking tape" to vellum and permanent tape. Glue sticks are also commonly used in the hobby. For photographs though, special acid-free tapes is the preferred choice.
* Albums or books - These are a must to store the finished pages and create beautiful presentations. They can be simple ring binders or elaborate books meant as heirloom pieces.
* Embellishments - From stickers and stamps, these items help add extra eye appeal to a finished page. They are meant to compliment the subject of the page and combine with photos and words to tell the story behind the layout.
Srapbooking is a major hobby in the United States with literally thousands of people taking part preserving cherished memories along the way. A hobby that suits men, women and children, it is part craft, part self-expression. Few have found a better way to preserve their memories while adding more to the effort than a simple photo album can afford. Getting into scrapbooking can cost a small fortune or very little. It really all depends on how elaborate the end product is the creator wants to make.
